- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis are two distinct conditions
that both lead to the inflammation of joints. RA is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s own immune
system attacks healthy tissue, whereas in osteoarthritis, tissue is destroyed through wear and tear.
- 60–80%
of Rheumatoid arthritis patients do not achieve major signs and symptoms control.
- Up
to 40% of patients with Rheumatoid arthritis do not respond or are intolerant to tumour necrosis factor
(TNF) inhibitor therapy.
- Irreversible joint damage occurs in 70% of patients within
2 years of RA being diagnosed.
