Are genes responsible for influenza?

No genetic factor that makes certain people especially susceptible to influenza has been identified to date.
Nevertheless, mutations in genes are known to influence the course of some infectious diseases. For example, studies showed that HIV-1 infected persons with a deletion (loss of a small segment of DNA) in the CCR5 gene progressed to AIDS 2 to 4 years later than persons with the more common form of this gene.
