In type 2 diabetes the pancreas generally produces insulin, but
the body is unable to make effective use of it. This results in
glucose accumulating in the blood and thus failing to fulfil its
role as the body's principal source of energy.
Who is at particular risk?
- People who are overweight
- People
with poor diet and lack of exercise
- People with a family history of diabetes
- Elderly

- People taking certain medications, e.g. steroids
